Keeping Track of Your Embroidery Supplies

I've always been pretty good at keeping my embroidery supplies together; or so I thought. Unpacking this house, though, has made me realize that I was sorely lacking in that area! I'm in the middle of setting up my office/sewing room, and it's difficult when I keep unpacking things I had forgotten I had (they never got unpacked in Greece) and can't find my every-day tools.

When I unpacked my main embroidery machine, it only had one of the hoops with it; the smallest and least used. No thread, no scissors, no nothing. Another box contained a single hoop for another embroidery machine, and it was the largest and least used for that machine. I also have no idea where that machine is. I look forward to creating my machine embroidery with it again when it turns up.

Before moving, I didn't realize that I was missing thread. I use my machine embroidery thread for just about every stitching project now because it comes in so many colors. It turns out that I wasn't returning them to their storage box after using them, so I keep finding one or two spools of thread in several different boxes that contain either unfinished projects or the remnants of a finished one. I really let my organization go!

I did find a box that contains most of the tools and supplies I need on a daily basis. No scissors or rotary cutters, though. Those were found in a box labeled 'Living Room Deco' that somehow ended up in the sewing room or I never would have found it this early in the unpacking process. I was hoping to start sewing by the end of the week, but most of my fabric is still buried in the stacks in the garage. But at least I know where most of my embroidery supplies are now!

If I relied on commercial embroidery cards for my stitching, I'd be frantic right now trying to find them. Instead, I purchase all of my machine embroidery designs from my favorite embroidery design gallery and save them on an external hard-drive that I keep with me at all times. If I lost that, I'd know for sure that my organization is hopeless. I used to be known for my organizational skills, so my recent lack is quite distressing.

Today will see the final furniture placement in the office/sewing room, and I'll unpack the last of the boxes that are in there. After that, it's the fun part of actually putting everything in its place. Yes, I actually enjoy that task. Initially. After a while, it's just too much trouble to put things away where they belong because I'd much rather be working on that new embroidery pattern! I vow to be better about that in the future.

I just remembered that I need to make some curtains for that room! It is sun-drenched in the morning and has a great view of the backyard garden. However, that sun and view will blind me if I don't cover the windows. So, it looks like I have an excuse to start a sewing and embroidery project this week after all!

Hopefully I can find everything I'll need for it!
