Get Your Favorite Embroidery Designs & Patterns

Finally, after two long months, we are getting ready to move into our new home. Leaving Greece was not something we wanted to do, but it's still quite exciting to be setting up a new place that will become our home. There's still two weeks until our move date, but that just gives me lots of time to plan for the messes I am going to make. Whenever we move, I tell myself that I am going to work on unpacking everything until it is done. In reality, I unpack the kitchen, the linens, and my quilting and embroidery supplies.

Then, I get sidetracked by my machine embroidery and quilting. It's much more fun than digging through boxes and throwing away tons of packing paper. With this move, though, I am giving myself permission ahead of time to play. I'll set a specific amount of time for unpacking and setting things up each day, and then I will be free to work on pretty embroidery patterns and free embroidery downloads to help decorate my new home. I stocked up on thread for machine embroidery before we moved, so I'm ready to go. Well, as soon as I stock up on some new machine embroidery designs, that is.

New designs always spark my creativity! And, I believe that I discovered a couple of new free embroidery designs at my favorite embroidery design gallery. Bonus! My new home has no curtains at all, and lots of windows. Because of my sewing skills and the fact that pre-made curtains are so expensive, my first order of business will be making lots and lots of curtains.

I did this years ago when we lived in Sicily, but my sewing skills are much better now than they were back then. And, with the help of my embroidery machine, I plan on making my plain cotton curtains really pop with simple redwork and other traditional designs. For my kitchen, I'll do a bit more work and create beautiful cafe curtains with great free-standing lace embroidery patterns specifically for this purpose. I just need to decide if I want to use bright white thread or more soothing ecru.

What a tough decision! Other than creating new pretty things for my home, one of my favorite parts of moving is getting the chance to really organize everything. Of course, my embroidery supplies will get special treatment, but I also like to set up shelving and bins for garage storage, arrange my kitchen cabinets just so, and discover the perfect arrangement that allows for storage of all of our linens for bed, bath and kitchen. This kitchen, unlike our last one, has its own pantry, so my sewing room cabinets will be available for my studio once again. I'm so excited! The anticipation I feel over the move, even the very boring unpacking part of it, tells me that our two months of living as guests was well worth it. I find myself becoming much too comfortable in my surroundings if things don't get shaken up from time to time. Luckily for me, shaking things up also spurs my creativity. So, look out new house, quilting and machine embroidery are the name of the game and I plan on being the top participant!
