There had to be a better way to create all of those personalized shapes for my scrapbook. It was inevitable. I would get some kind of blister on my thumb or a cramp in my fingers - just from cutting paper.
Confession: I was going to war for my crafts and losing. First, I had to unpack all of my materials out of the craft cabinet (I'm a collector by nature so that meant oodles of stencils and papers that would be transformed into fairly sophisticated cut-outs). Then, I would tape up my fingers like an athlete preparing for battle. It is rather absurd if you think about it, but for the record I just couldn't find a comfortable pair of scissors.
Assuming there were no interruptions along the way, I could finally get on with my crafting. That entailed hours of tracing and cutting and fitting and more cutting... All of this effort was worth it. After all, I finished with beautiful cards, elegant cut paper crafts, and the sweetest scrapbook themes. But I hated it! The time and effort to cut with scissors was making it more of an endurance hobby than a pleasure.
Little did I know that my friends stopped using scissors or an x-acto knife, but their designs were far more intricate than mine. They had begun using a personal die cutting machine to create each and every shape for their craft projects. They could make a few selections on the machine and have individual die-cut shapes ready in minutes. You don't even have to use a computer.
It's plug-in simple. And, they could repeat the process seamlessly while I was struggling to keep up. A personal die cutting machine is like a printer except it's used for cutting shapes in paper, vinyl, foam, and so many other items.
I don't have to connect it to a computer.
All of the functionality is built into the Cricut Cutting Machine. This is, hands down, the one factor that convinced me to try the die-cutting machine. Now my cutting process is drop-dead simple. I select shapes using the built in control panel, load my paper and watch it cut. The Cricut Personal Cutting machine features individual cartridges for different shapes and fonts so it's completely expandable. You are only limited by your imagination.
Bonus points for moms! My kids like the fact that I can create cut-outs of licensed cartoon characters (think of the expanded possibilities for scrapbook pages and birthday cards). I'm in love with some of the simple flourishes that I can add to scrapbook pages-and they're ready almost as soon as I finish plugging it in. And for those that want, you can connect the Cricut to your computer and download or create additional custom shapes and images.
You place your paper or other material on the craft mat. It's like a sticky cutting mat. This is loaded onto the cutter, once it's done cutting you just peel the cutout shapes off. While you can create some the most intricate cut images, but be sure you have the spatula to remove your items from the craft mat. The spatula really does help remove even the thinnest of papers from your mat.
