Machine Embroidery for the home hobbyist has become a lot more popular since home embroidery machines entered the marketplace in the late 1990's. Today, one can even purchase a combined embroidery and sewing machine. However, if you want to take your embroidering to a new level, it is really better to purchase a dedicated home embroidery machine such as the Brother PE770.
The Brother PE770 is an advanced computerized machine which actually does most of the work. All the user has to do is choose an appropriate design for the garment or drapery being decorated and load it into the machine's memory.
Actually, that's not quite all. You need to know how to set it up the correct way! There are a few functions of machine embroidery that are important to get right.
1. Choose an Appropriate Design
There is nothing more disappointing than seeing a beautiful garment embellished with a badly chosen design. You need to be careful to choose an embroidery pattern that matches your fabric texture and weight. There is a lot of information on the internet to guide you when choosing your designs. If you want to embroider a T-shirt for example, you need to choose quite a small and light design because T-shirt material being stretchy, is not heavy enough to carry a large design.
2. Use The Correct Needle and Thread
Depending on the fabric being embroidered, you may need different types of thread. The most popular thread used by embroiderers is rayon because it is readily available, comes in a wide range of colors and generally holds up to being stitched at a high speed. The other main thread used is polyester which is an economical choice, as long as it is of high quality.
You also need to use the correct embroidery needle to match the weight of the fabric you are embroidering. With T-shirts for example, the needle needs to be small. A proper embroidery needle enables the thread to pass easily through its eye without breaking.
3. Stabilizing Your Design
You need to work with the correct sized hoop for your design. The Brother PE770, being a dedicated embroidery machine comes with a big 5'x7' hoop for lovely large embellishments. The embroidery hoop is used to make the area of fabric that you are working on taut, so that it doesn't pucker or move during the embroidery process.
You should stabilize your fabric with appropriate stabilizer, depending on whether you are embroidering a woven or a stretch fabric. If your fabric is quite normal and firmly woven, you can use a tear away stabilizer that is just used while you are doing the job and is then torn away, so it is temporary. If, however you are embroidering a knit fabric like T-shirt material or some loosely woven fabric, you need to use a permanent stabilizer that you cut away around the design after you have finished.
If you follow these three tips you should be rewarded with a more satisfying embroidery experience and a much more professional result in the end.
