3. Stabilizing Your Design

You need to work with the correct sized hoop for your design. The Brother PE770, being a dedicated embroidery machine comes with a big 5'x7' hoop for lovely large embellishments. The embroidery hoop is used to make the area of fabric that you are working on taut, so that it doesn't pucker or move during the embroidery process.

You should stabilize your fabric with appropriate stabilizer, depending on whether you are embroidering a woven or a stretch fabric. If your fabric is quite normal and firmly woven, you can use a tear away stabilizer that is just used while you are doing the job and is then torn away, so it is temporary. If, however you are embroidering a knit fabric like T-shirt material or some loosely woven fabric, you need to use a permanent stabilizer that you cut away around the design after you have finished.
